But still the sunken stars appear
In dark and windless Mirrormere;
There lies his crown in water deep,
Till Durin wakes again from sleep.

God bless. 😘 You have Ko-Fi? I’d like to send a token of my gratitude.

2·1 day agoYeah! I use the naming scheme
Passwords_[device-name]_[date].kdbx
so I always know on which device the database was updated and when.

11·1 day agoThank you for sharing your story and journey! The following is a comment from a meta perspective. Absolutely no pun intended… If it’s any consolation at all, I think this illustrates how a lot of digital industry giants have purposefully created ecosystems that are hard to leave, with the sole purpose of reaping your data, of course. It also shows how attaining even small steps towards digital privacy, which should not be this complicated, requires social and economic sacrifices, which in itself is insane, considering that privacy is supposed to be a universal human right.
Now, a more direct comment. Always keep in mind that the end user is NEVER to blame for such back and forth struggles as you describe. You “wouldn’t” commit, you say. Did ANY of the big tech giants ever make it easy for you, I ask?
Personally, I’m using Tuta, SimpleLogin and KeepassXC (and it’s fork for Android). My setup won’t really give you any good hints though, since I’m not trying to achieve that smooth and dynamic workflow and ecosystem with easy credential sharing, exports and inter device operation. I log in and out of every instance every time on every device and manually update my password database and manually synch it to all my devices. It’s a hassle, but then again, it takes just a few more minutes and I like “fiddling”…

2·5 days agoI think I had this same webcam about… Ten years ago? Full HD, autofocus… If it is indeed the same product, maybe the included “pamphlet” is old as F too.

17·5 days agoProbably a “grey hat” scam. As in, three months for free, but probably requiring a credit card, which then automatically gets charged after the first three months, hoping that the user simply doesn’t have the patience to unsubscribe or something.

3·5 days agoMy guess is that there definitely could be some sort of underground market for them, but as I understand the legislation, using them would be illegal.
But then again, if one really requires privacy, telephones and SMS are some of the worst options for communication. In the current state of things, I’d simply use an end to end encrypted chat app, preferably one that implements the Signal protocol.
This looks like a neat and simple enough setup! Thank! :)

2·5 days agoNo. Both data-SIMs and prepaid cards require the buyer to reveal their name, address and social security number over the counter and online. The retailer is also compelled to verify the buyer’s identity, either electronically or physically (ID card).

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Do you ever get the feeling of zooming out of your phone into your head and actually realizing everything, instead of just mindlessly watching videos?
3·6 days agoFortunately, I was busy experiencing foreign cultures abroad when that kind of media consumption took off, so I dodged it and never got hooked. Considering that I may only live once, nothing gives me greater anxiety than imaging a life that I wasted on nothing. While this video is sort of sarcastic, it also sort of isn’t.
I’m using a separate little laptop to chat, in this case, with Signal. It’s a little inconvenient, but on the other hand, if you don’t have multiple monitors, you are at least free from chat notifications in your gaming screen/window. :)
Yet another though, if you have an Android phone, just plug in a keyboard and use the phone for chat. :D
Yeah, sorry, I was unclear on several parts in the post. Thanks anyways! If Steam’s native broadcasting turns out to such, I’ll try something else.
Thanks! I just installed OBS - also trying out a few variants from the AUR - but it gave an error saying “couldn’t load frontend-tools plugin”, didn’t recognize/pick up the Steam and/or the game’s window, even though I tried the game in various screen modes, and WHIP wasn’t in the streaming servers/sources selection section. I did some limited troubleshooting, but gave up, because my friend says they have Steam too. We’ll try out Steam’s “native” broadcasting function later tonight and see if we’re satisfied with that + chat/voice chat through Signal.
Thanks for your time and input! :)
God I love humanity. Sometimes. Really neat project! :D

Ah, this made it super clear. It’s spamdexing porn. Thanks.
