17·21 days agoHow does CSAM tell you anything about the abuser? It only reveals the victim.

15·21 days agoYou want kid’s histories of child abuse viewable for… evidence?
Wow… yeah, we need to re-traumatize kids by posting their naked bodies online because that’s how we prove Epstein really abused kids

467·23 days agoOh I’m sorry that you only got the text releases, you really want the photos and videos that make up 98% of the data?
Edit: not defending the DoJ for covering up emails but “percentage of data” is a stupid metric here

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Does it happen when the law arrest a drug kingpin or whatever and they offer the cops something like 10mil a piece to let him/her go? Has anyone ever actually taken it? Or is movie trope?
11·26 days agoMeanwhile everyone back at HQ is radioing and asking “did you get him? Why is there 20 minutes of silence?”
People can think. I can’t imagine how this works when you’re being backed up by dozens of people

141·27 days agoProbably a trope. Low level cops don’t just stumble on kingpins. It take a large, coordinated investigation. You can’t just pay off the arresting officer, you’d need to pay off dozens at a minimum. And someone would say something. Maybe not to their boss, but at a bar, etc.
Excuse me, dear cousin, but we all come from Adam and Eve!

politics @lemmy.world•Ehud Barak Had a Very Close Friendship With Jeffrey Epstein
52·29 days agoAs a mod of a huge community, I cannot tell you how often someone said “Jews did x,” then called it censorship when we deleted it. If you criticize Israel, you’re fine. If you says “Jews,” but mean “Israel,” you’re probably not.
Meanwhile, we have lively discussions behind the scenes to prevent censorship. Users don’t really care though, they just want to complain and assume every mod action is an attack on users.

News@lemmy.world•Bitcoin falls to lowest level since Trump took office
114·1 month agoYup. People hate when it’s the easy answer but there’s no huge conspiracy. Traditional economists were terrified about the potential shift at the fed and Trump picked an establishment guy. The dollar got stronger, while crypto, gold, and silver crashed.
The other part here is that crypto had a decent bump when Trump won, but before he took office. Investors were excited about him as a pro-crypto president

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•[US] How are so many people able to protest? (Logistically)
151·1 month agoUnpaid time off sucks, I’ve been there too. The American economic system feels designed as if everyone has a full time job with benefits.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•[US] How are so many people able to protest? (Logistically)
321·1 month agoIn my life, I’ve held an array of jobs. Sometimes I’d just be off randomly on a Friday (because I’d have to work all weekend).
Some people in this economy are struggling to find full time/permanent jobs, so they can spare time to protest.
Speaking from my current situation, I have a bank of time I could pull from if I wanted to take time off. Many people can easily fake saying they are sick to get time off on short notice. Some people probably have cool bosses who will let them request vacation at the last minute. There’s a million possible scenarios.

politics @lemmy.world•Ex-CNN anchor Don Lemon released after arrest over Minnesota church protest
62·1 month agoThe timing of his indictment was coordinated so that they announced they were going after him a week before the latest batch of Epstein files were released?
Or was it timed to be a few weeks after the last batch?
Genuinely not sure what this means.

politics @lemmy.world•Why do we keep using the Russian captured internet?
172·1 month agoIt looks like “verified audience” reports only include people who bought a ticket on Fandango. This means a small group of people who saw some preview in a theater. If you change the filter to “all,” the audience ratings are much poorer. Nobody is going to buy tickets because it’s not in theaters, so then”verified” score will be skewed, I guess

The one we just started?
