Donald Trump wants to know who leaked details about the missing U.S. airman who was rescued from the mountains of Iran in a high-stakes mission on Sunday.

The U.S. carried out a daring operation to extract two airmen who ejected from the F-15E fighter jet that was shot down by Iranian forces on Friday. The military plucked the pilot out of Iranian territory on Friday, and later pulled out the second service member who was hiding in the mountains.

But during a press conference on Monday, Trump accused a media organization of jeopardizing the mission for reporting that a second airman was missing on Friday. He did not name the media organization, but threatened to jail the journalist who first reported that a second airman was missing.

Weird how none of these pilots have actually been named, nor have their families said anything

I don’t think the USA rescued anyone. I think this was a failed attempt to transport uranium out of Iran.

I… I am so confused here. The CIA pulled a psyop making him look rescued before he was in an attempt to confuse Iran. This Is public knowledge. Someone with sympathy please sponsor me to get out of this hell hole :(

The pedophile that stole top secret government documents and has been on record exposing military intelligence said that? Crazy. Go get em, tiger.

Apparently trump has difficulty figuring out that if a fighter has a crew of 2 and one is rescued there must be one left over somewhere…

The whole thing is not spilled top secret info and the Iranians would have been searching as soon as they figured out it was a 2 seated F15 that was shot down.
It kind of reads like “we’re missing a pilot but unless there is hubbub about it we plan on doing nothing” and now their hand got forced.

Remember how low trump thinks of wounded soldiers…

Do we know for a fact the exact aircraft that were shot down? I get what you are saying. I’d just love a source that has a count on them and all the info. Seems like a chaos of misinformation on all of this.

The president did not share any names as to the leaker, the journalists, or the media outlets that he believed had publicized the story. But after his comments, some members of the press pointed toward Fox News and The Washington Post for being among the first to land the scoop.

Yet those media companies were not the only ones to report that one member of the military had been unaccounted for after the initial rescue on Friday: Reuters also reported at the time that just one of the aircrew had been rescued. Hours later, the outlet reported that a search and rescue was underway.

Other journalists jumped to claim the scoop, even after Trump’s threat. Amit Segal—an Israeli journalist with ties to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu—said on his Telegram chat later Monday that he was the first to report the story.

“As you may recall, this was first published here,” Segal wrote.

It’s on brand for Trump to gloat and parade a successful rescue but that’s not what’s happening so it’s highly suspect.

Having only read Trump’s comments on this, he says Iran didn’t know there was a 2nd missing person until the story was leaked. If true, the journalist and reporter put the pilots life in danger.

Is there some context we’re missing?

Now, arresting the journalists is dumb, but definitely seems like a dick move to report this.

The plane was a two-seater. Thinking that Iran didn’t know there was a second pilot requires the assumption that Iranian intelligence is incapable of looking the plane up on Wikipedia.

Basically, I trust Iran far more than I trust the President of the United States.

Thanks for a legit answer. Still don’t see a reason why the information was leaked. What was gained? Outside of an exclusive.

I get that journalists are allowed to print whatever they want, but usually they will not print something if it might cause harm. This seems like one of those cases.

I don’t think information like that can be considered “leaked”, though. Of course there was a second pilot. That kind of plane has two. It would have been weird and mysterious if it didn’t have a second pilot.

Maybe it was possible they already got the other pilot. Maybe it was possible they confirmed the other pilot died already.

There’s a reason why this story was reported as a leak and not as “common sense tells you 2 pilots are missing, not 1”.

It actually assumes that Iran doesn’t know the capabilities of its own neighbors, since a lot of Middle Eastern nations, including Israel, are operators of the F15.

People keep saying this in this thread. But there are multiple versions of the F15 and many are single operator aircraft. I don’t know much about our current inventory or what ones are in operation. Is there evidence of what model of F15 was shot down? I know one was the dual operator F15E. But I haven’t seen any info on the other one that they were not covering as much. The one that crashed outside of Iran.

Sending the pilot to die as a distraction from rampant child rape and other crimes seems like a dick move on the pedophile president’s part.
