First there is no generation to blame do not fall for the generation memes

I don’t but I mourn the fact that my society is so broken that there are shockingly few elders to look up to that don’t have a murderous apathy with respect to the status quo.

I also fear deeply for my future that Blue Maga can’t handle this amount of introspection.

Then take heart in knowing that this is nothing new. This is just basic human history. And as long as humans exist this will continue.

We are in utterly unprecedented times, don’t give me that hogwash… also knowing humanity will continue doesn’t make me less scared, that is a balm for existentialist fear, my fear is a very physical one that has to do with being afraid my body won’t continue in a quality of life worth living not “oh no! This feels hopeless in a philosophical way!”

Instead of wasting breath on politics yall should get thinking about getting through power outage and filtering water. We looked a lot different in the last one and probably also fighting over the last banana.

Your cynical determinism isn’t useful in this moment, either for agitating people or for encouraging them to look to history for echoes of now even if you are in some ways technically right.

Many things make these times precedented, many more make them unprecedented.

Historians will NOT write of this time of human history “it was largely unremarkable and left no more permanent violence on our futures than any other generation of people have done.”

It’s not cynicism. Farthest thing from. If anything it is positivity. Noting the clear parallels to Nazi Germany. it is important that people acknowledge them. And stop waiting to see what’s going to happen.

Even more importantly. Is to not feel how the fascists want you to feel. Hopeless and despondent.

I never said historians would gloss over it or write it off. They write over the smallest minutiae in the greatest detail. And while they’re doing that they will point out this similarity to events that have happened before. The sooner we recognize this for what it is. The sooner maybe we can alter course.

I think what we disagree on is the mindset and language that is required to grapple with a historically precedented crisis that is fueled by the unprecedented power of humans to annihilate our home and future that we certainly have never had.

I’m offering you perspective from a generation that came before. I grew up during the cold war. When they all taught us to death and cover under our flimsy school desks to deflect a nuclear blast. In just a decade or two we will be reaching the centennial anniversary of man achieving the power to wipe out nearly all life on Earth. This all feels pretty prescidented.

The petty squabbling of bitter old men, the hanging sword of Damocles, and automated systems threatening to bring it all down on top of us . It’s all so familiar and well discussed. I’m certainly not saying that things aren’t serious or daunting. They are. But I’m not sure that they are unprecedented. Honestly it’s the fact this is all so well precidented that should demand more people’s action. And not just sitting and waiting.
