I visited Boston from the UK and found everyone to be super friendly. Had lots of conversations with folks who just started chatting to me, and would go out of their way to recommend things to do. I also found the same in NYC. And Paris. I think friendly people are everywhere.

The Stoics would say you actually shouldn’t seek constant mental stimulation, because letting your brain just “be”, and sitting with boredom, is actually incredibly beneficial for creativity and personal growth. I do have to ask though, as what you’re describing is so relatable and I used to be the same way as you until I taught myself to let my brain relax; is it possible you have ADHD?

I like day dreaming, talking to people I bump into while I’m about, hearing the buzz of people in a pub garden, the music playing in people’s cars as they drive past. I like these things, it makes me feel connected to the place I live. It’s also good to just let your mind wander without constant stimulation.

I would strongly recommend trying Couch to 5k. There are a bunch of free apps for it. It’s a program that can get basically anyone from doing zero exercise, to being able to run 5km. I literally never ran until my 30s and now I do 5km 3 times a week, and even did a 10km race.

It’s very gentle and achievable but all of a sudden you’ll realise you’ve finished the program and you’re a runner haha.

I mean, it works everywhere else. If there was an unlimited pot of ATCs then flights wouldn’t have been cancelled today.

Yeah I can’t hold the numbers in my mind. It’s like i can grasp the concept of a number for a split second and then it’s gone like smoke. How do you add two numbers together in your mind? Like, what happens?

Because you can’t hold two numbers in your mind simultaneously, or imagine one adding to another and the result of that. It’s probably difficult to explain if you are able to visualise things.

I can do maths on paper when I can see it on front of me. But I don’t have a mind’s eye.

Yeah I felt the same. I actually can’t watch gory films but this video wasn’t hard to watch. But then I’ve experienced quite a lot of difficult situations irl so maybe I’m desensitised.

I think this must be a cultural thing because no one in the UK sends SMS messages. Everyone just uses WhatsApp or signal or telegram. I’m android and have literally never had anyone mention the colour of my bubble. I didn’t know this was a thing!
