I may be wrong, but I think there’s a way to export subtitle files from mkv files using mkvtoolnix / mkvtoolnix-gui and then import them alongside the film itself if you import the source video file and source subtitle file into kdenlive. At least on Ubuntu, mkvtoolnix is available in the Ubuntu default repository. Kdenlive looks like it has AppImage and Flatpak as installation optionshttps://kdenlive.org/download/.

What format is this video? Is it a file or is it like a DVD on your laptop? Or is it on a streaming service? Are you on Windows or Linux? This was a very good first attempt but there are some relatively simple (and free!) open source tools available that can allow you to edit the section you want to share more easily (unless it’s streaming, don’t actually have simple solutions for that). I would love to help impart some info on where to start.

I mean, at this point, they’re not entirely wrong. We can’t count on this obscenely broken system to save us by “voting harder” like we’ve been doing for 3 solid decades with nothing but things getting worse and corporate democrats barely fighting back against the worst excesses of the Bush and Trump administrations (and frankly being part and parcel to the worst excesses of the Clinton administration).

It’s time to follow the lead of groups like the Black Panthers. They understood the assignment. We cannot count on a system designed to be anti-democratic with anti-democratic institutions like the Senate existing to actually resemble a functioning democracy. We have to turn to Mutual Aid and helping one another.

I get it, a lot of those Trump voters would be shitty candidates to bring into Mutual Aid groups, but their broken cynicism is part of being left behind politically for decades coupled with lack of education. Some of them may still be redeemable and find their skills valuable in Mutual Aid and may start to grow in positive ways that they themselves would have never dreamed.

The citizen observers watching ICE are by and large average citizens, they are not our politicians, who more likely sit in comfy warm offices while the citizens freeze their asses off trying to protect one another. That’s the reality, is even though we have a handful of good politicians fighting for us, they are fighting within a broken non-functioning system. That is not their fault and that does not mean their fight is pointless, but we cannot expect them to do the fight alone, we also must protect and support each other… and that means trying to find the least shitty Trump supporters and bring them into the community fold.

The last time I even remember private trackers being taken down was in the days of Oink.UK and What.CD.

Oink was shut down in 2007 and What was shut down in 2016, both mostly because they had grown so big they were hard to ignore. A lot of modern sites keep an upper limit on the accounts they allow to prevent too much growth and attracting attention.

Hell, I remember baconBits having an upper limit of less than 10,000 accounts. Once that limit was reached, you couldn’t even send out invites.

Also, public trackers that were huge like RARBG survived until finances shut them down, via COVID and the war in Ukraine, they were never taken down forcibly, and they were massive and widely used.

Just fuckin with ya. Those are all valid gripes. I guess I got in on the scene way early through invites from friends and so I’ve hardly ever had to go through any interview process. I think the only place I “interviewed” was baconbits and it wasn’t really an interview since I mostly just shared evidence of good ratio on other trackers with long-lived accounts. I’ve had an account in good standing on Cinemageddon for… 18 years as of next month. Getting over that initial hump made it pretty easy to get in with good standing, and most decent trackers aren’t that hard to get good ratio on.

I just want to say thanks for reminding me to play The Stanley Parable to get the Go Outside achievement. I beat it by 6 years! I hadn’t played it in 11 years!
