AFAIK the person was doxxed and the employer was getting threats so it boiled down to security risk. But I just skimmed over some posts in reddit+steam so this might be total nonsense…

0·4 months agoNever touched HK but a buddy of mine uses it only. AFAIK HK compatibility is expensive compared to cheap HA integrations. Even hardware not specifically for HA can be integrated like Tuya products with “local Tuya” so the availability is huge compared to HK. Getting into HA takes a bit time but it’s worth it.
There is an HA app on android and iOS where you can create widgets for all kind off stuff ranging from switches over sensors to scenes and automations. Or you can create multiple dashboards for each kid with their own layout.
It’s at least worth a try.

0·5 months agoDepending on reliability and stability of the local internet and power, you want to have your stuff available. Ranging from documents and photos up to your libary of everything else. Everything has pros and cons and what things you’re fine with.
Most of the time, all news are doing the part of “why it’s bad to rely on big corp”…
Explain why you care about it, usually if the people trust you, they will share your opinion

0·6 months agoSo a dumb question: last email stated, if there be any changes in costs, they will notify me 60 days prior but I still haven’t got anything from M$… Aren’t they running head first into an giant lawsuit in Europe? Still going to cancel the subscription though
On mobile: Ublock origin, Consent-o-matic, Privacy badger, And old Reddit redirect.
On PC: All the above + Enhanced YouTube, Dearrow, Sponsor block, Bitwarden, And some more (can’t remember them all)
Firefox with a handful of extensions, same on phone.
Last time a site “needed” chromium based a user agent switch did the miracle…

For system and docker stats I can only recommend beszel. Portainer for docker management and anything else ssh.
