0·2 months agoI tried going back to it on pc recently and was met with a pretty janky experience. GoG and Steam versions. I ended up emulating the PS2 version with some upscaling and it was great. There’s community texture packs and widescreen patches as well if you have the hardware to run them (low bar fwiw, I had success with an anbernic android device and a few mods as an example).

Games@lemmy.world•PC game recommendation for my partner and IEnglish
0·2 months agoPortal 2 was my first thought as well. It can also work as a good litmus test for how they will respond to FPS controls. You can try kb/m or controller and see what feels natural. My partner (we found playing left4dead after portal) is an inverted controller person. Which was wild to me considering they worked in a heavy clerical field and really took to building keyboard with me. Yet, no kb/m for gaming. After that switch , they were able to enjoy co-op 1st person stuff a lot easier.
After portal we played borderlands 2 together. It’s low pressure most of the time and can be a background activity while you talk and hang out. The story is kinda cheesy but it’s fun to share the inside jokes with someone and bonded us in an unexpected way.
Hopefully those work for you!
Edit: it takes two and split fiction are really fantastic coop experiences as well. But, it take two should probably have a small warning for emotional content. Split fiction is a ton of fun but does get kinda difficult for less seasoned players. I found it endearing helping through those sections, but it could be harder for others. There are some moments that we both audibly wowed at though! That made the difficulty worth it.

0·4 months agoI can’t say for certain they are but I’m of the same generation as him and grew up around conservatives that considered that type of “America at any cost” media to be sacred texts.
When you scratch the surface on it, it’s all just thinly veiled jingoism in a glossy suit. Hence homeboys desire here to have a “cool guy” jacket with unearned valor on it.
It’s 100% about the optics at the photo op after the real work has been done by someone trained and qualified.

0·4 months agoIt’s moments like this where we can see how much copoganda really affected some people’s perspective on the world. I am willing to bet there is no small part of this person‘s reality that they don’t think is straight out of a Tom Clancy novel, and they are the forces of good and justice.
I guess being realistic with where we are now, straight out of an Amazon TV Tom Clancy series.

0·5 months agoI’d really like to hope it’s a genuine effort to preserve history.
There’s a lot of history on Steam and losing it to dead os’es sucks. I know my account has a few hundred games that are a pain in the ass to get running on modern hardware without PCGamingWiki, ModDB, Widescreen Gaming Forums, etc…
Be cool to have them plug and play under proton.

0·5 months agoThanks for the kind response. I feel the downvotes are somewhat justified, I was engaging in a little bit of classic trolling. I have worked in tech-support long enough to have been sent and referenced several xkcd comics.
And unfortunately, not throwing a /s On my initial comment led to it whooshing right past a fair number of people apparently
Cheers friend! Have a great day.

It’s rad! Not announced at gdc this year or anything but it’s been a lot of fun messing around in this game that feels like an amalgamation of Doom 2016 and Titanfall.
