  • I haven’t done the type of deep dive research others mention here but I trusted my doctor when he told me this was a good choice for me. I also don’t live in the US so have no reason to believe he’s being paid off. If there are worse consequences than what I’ve discussed with him already, I guess I’ll have to deal with that.

There are also non-medicinal ways to treat binge eating, and I’ve known people that have had good success with therapy/CBT for that, in case that’s something you can afford or are interested in.

  • I’ll bite. I’m on it for what some people here would consider “recreational” purposes (weight loss). However, I have polycystic ovaries and have had extreme difficulty losing weight in other ways. Essentially the only way I can lose weight is doing a pretty severe calorie deficit, which is really hard to do and essentially means I am starving all the time. Ozempic has helped me curb that perpetual feeling of hunger, and besides diarrhea (which I already had often anyway), it hasn’t caused me that many side effects.

Essentially PCOS causes a craving for carbs and sugar. It’s hard to fill that hole, but there are other ways to supplement the things that my body is not creating which make me crave those things. While I’m on ozempic (I don’t plan on using it long-term) I’m also working to make changes to my diet to make sure I’m getting those things I was missing (B12, chromium picolante, some other stuff with scientific names).

And I know people think it’s just “lazy”, which it is for some people, but I struggle to lose weight even with exercise and calorie deficits. Ozempic has helped me lose some, but not as drastic as other people.

I have friends who are on waygovy (the same drug as ozempic but specifically targeted at weight loss) and they’ve had more side effects than me, but they are significantly bigger, have less healthy lifestyles and are I believe on a much higher dose than me. They’ve lost a ton of weight though.

  • I think the OP was originally about fried preparation of potatoes. Wedges at least in North America are usually fried, I think the only non-fried ones I’ve seen are in the UK.

Also if we’re talking about the best preparation of potatoes in general, it’s mashed and there’s no argument there.

Newer SVU episodes also acknowledge the issues and often essentially have the message that they (the very specific SVU team) are the only non-terrible NYPD team even within their own universe. I can’t speak to the other law and orders as I haven’t seen them.

It is copaganda but they’re trying their best. SVU in particular seems pretty self aware that it’s pretty much fantasy at this point.

  • Someone should create safe injection sites and call them “jails” and then I bet right wingers would be all over letting addicts go to jails for “short term incarceration”.

Better yet, create ultra low security “prisons” that allow “prisoners” to have “unescorted temporary absences” but really they’re just free homes for the unhoused and they can sign in and out as they please.

I think that’s the language those people prefer.

  • I lost my cat for a week once but he wasn’t an outdoor cat, he just snuck past as I was coming home in the dark once. It was so difficult to try to explain to people that no, he is not an outside cat, and please please help me get him back home because he doesn’t know how to get home. So many people in the neighbourhood saw him but they just assumed he was an outdoor cat and didn’t bother.

Thankfully I found him after many nights of going out to search for him, but I really can’t imagine people would’ve reacted the same to a lost dog.

This was like 15 years ago but I’m still in the habit of opening my door foot first now to make sure I push any curious kitties back before I walk in.

Where the fuck did I say Palestine would destroy Israel?

I am 100% pro-Palestine, I just genuinely do not understand how voting someone in who has exponentially sped up the genocide and sped up the suffering of brown, queer people and women, in his own country is somehow the more moral choice in all of this. It doesn’t make any fucking sense to me.

I know I’ll get downvoted for this, and to be clear, all of our governments supporting this genocide are absolute bullshit and capitalism is bullshit.

However, at least you had one choice that wasn’t actively also trying to destroy your own country and take away the rights of people in your own country to such an extent that they now can’t even worry about what’s happening elsewhere because they’re too worried trying to find healthcare and not get deported, killed, or permanently detained.

If you were going to not vote in order to take down the system, then show up and take down the god damn fucking system.
