Someone deluded themselves into thinking that a couple bombs would magically produce peace. This is not a Harry Potter movie, so Explosio Nocturna did not work.
OMG you are an absolute legend of a life saver! Thank you so much, I am going to try it out as soon as I get to a computer!
Okular is absolutely fantastic. The only thing I am missing is image import, to place my signature on PDF forms, and then it’s perfect.
Does anyone know if it has that feature and I’m just too dumb to find it?

I am assuming they are going to kick her to the curb because she was a “crypto-Marxist” or something like that.
manxu@piefed.socialto politics @lemmy.world•Trump directs ICE to expand deportation efforts in Democratic-run citiesEnglish7·1 month agoI would venture the guess that this is a move meant to cripple the economies of blue cities and states.
Basically, the administration figured out that Trump’s policies are poison for the economy, so they are applying them selectively.
it might have looked bad as if she was a sore loser
Honestly, not being a sore loser is what ended her political career. She got nothing out of conceding quickly, especially because Biden and Harris both painted a Trump presidency as a cataclysm for democracy.
If Trump is so bad (spoiler alert: he is), then you can’t just throw in the towel because CBS projects Trump to win Florida. You ultimately become complicit in his victory. And that’s really hard to forgive.

WHO are these people that haven’t heard enough about him? And WHY isn’t there “I have heard way too much about him” option in the poll?
manxu@piefed.socialto politics @lemmy.world•Trump’s National Guard troops are ‘sitting unused without orders’ after being deployed for LA protests, Gavin Newsom revealsEnglish18·1 month agoTrump got what he wanted. You can be certain that right-wing media will spin this as, “the only reason the troops were idle is that the President’s quick action quelled the protests.”
The field separator is declared to be the colon, with -F:, so the fields end and start at colons.

manxu@piefed.socialto politics @lemmy.world•Trump deploys National Guard after second day of Los Angeles immigration protests | CNNEnglish9·1 month agoIt was really hard to watch. SCOTUS created this monster executive with unlimited and almost unchecked powers, Biden declared that Trump was a danger to democracy itself, and then… crickets. It was heart-breaking that he didn’t even try to curb the limits of power of the Presidency by doing something SCOTUS was going to rule against, handing the next administration everything.

After the tax cuts start working their way, there is going to be a massive shortfall in public funding, and then the, “Who could have seen this coming?” will start and then the real Tightening of the Belt.
manxu@piefed.socialto politics @lemmy.world•Media coverage of Kilmar Abrego Garcia hurt Trump, not DemocratsEnglish18·1 month agoAs strange as it seems, Trump’s highest approval ratings can be found in his handling of immigration. So, yes, there was a chance that these dramatically illegal and unconstitutional acts might be pleasing to some of the voting population. It’s the shit timeline we live in.

manxu@piefed.socialto politics @lemmy.world•Turnout didn’t cost Kamala Harris the electionEnglish11·2 months agoThe really weird thing about this election, which this analysis here repeats, is that a majority of young, especially young male voters went for Trump.
That is bizarre, because the political platform of Trump, the GOP, and especially Project 2025 is a frontal assault on young people. From reproductive rights to recreational drug use, from LGBTQ+ rights to employment rights, from access to universities to access to health care. Everything in that platform is meant to take from the young and give to the old, because the old have been reliable voters for the GOP.
It is not surprising that Trump suddenly polls tragically bad with GenZ after the vote. The question is, how could GenZ voters fall so easily for the mirage of lies? That’s the same people that accused Boomers of voting GOP because of lead poisoning, after all.
manxu@piefed.socialto politics @lemmy.world•'Hidden' provision in Trump's big bill could disarm US Supreme CourtEnglish17·2 months agoUh-oh. The check must have bounced.
I feel with you. The product idea is awesome, the implementation is so-so, and progress is backwards. It’s heart-breaking, really, and so sad nobody has a real alternative.
Being in Europe right now and following the local market, Europeans seem to prefer Chinese models over Tesla for a variety of reasons, Elon Musk being only one of them. Others I’ve heard include:
Teslas look stale and boring. They are too expensive to be everyman cars, but a 10 year old Tesla looks essentially the same as a new one. Luxury car buyers want to show off.
Tesla keeps downgrading features after the car was bought. What used to be included requires a subscription later on. Worse, Tesla decides when your car works and when it doesn’t.
That’s the more important ones I’ve heard. So far, all I’ve seen on the streets are European competitors and Koreans. There is a BYD dealership in town, and it’s very busy, but the vehicles they have on display are American-sized and too big for traffic here.
