It’s been a few years since the US invaded Iraq… Regardless, China’s investment in oil production does not translate to consumption. About half of Iraq’s oil was going to the US around 2004.

China gains power and influence in foreign nations through significant investment in infrastructure (often leading to enormous debt), which is going to result in significant long-term gains for China. The US approach is to smash the front door down and loot the place, then install a puppet who is hopefully loyal to them and won’t be easily ousted.

I wouldn’t want to be on the receiving end of either of them, but I know which one I’d choose if I had to pick one.

While rehabilitation is a much better way to prevent re-offending compared with incarceration, this guy needs way more than just a year of counseling and a few weeks of community service.

Your seemingly level-headed approach to analysing this information would make sense if this, and all of Israel’s other crimes against humanity, weren’t already widely known.

Imo you don’t actually seem to be acting in bad faith, but it’s pretty shocking that this is news to anyone on Lemmy, where such stories are shared fairly often.

I might be on the wrong side of history here, but it’s a bit hard to believe that jews in Israel are raping men, women, and children left and right.

That is not what this implies, but the majority of Israeli citizens are either okay with this kind of thing or they will simply deny it. There are many polls and interviews that show what their society thinks about Palestinians.

They were talking about during the campaigning. i.e. threatening to not vote for her unless she changed her stance before the election.

Trying “to pressure her with losing voters” doesn’t really work after the fact.
