Imagine you are on the ground under your car and need a different tool. You ask for it and somebody hands it to you. That person is young and inexperienced. It is up to You to check if it’s the right tool, and if not pass it back (and in this example tell the person about the error and help them correct it).
And sure, You can always crawl out and get the tool yourself and sometimes that is the only option and in coding terms in my opinion best practice. But you can be faster with your helper. Use it appropriately and see how it affects your work. And that’s the point, your work. Don’t pass responsibility or thought off to AI.

While I agree with You that there is always a compromise regarding privacy and participation. But you can always take steps to reduce that delta between reality and ideal by optimizing things.
I just looked it up and pangolin is based in the us. Since it’s selfhosted the impact is little but if a government turns bad (and theirs has) it poses a risk. Even if it’s open source I don’t read the code and verify every update. Hmm

Hi, don’t mind the people hating on AI. Doesn’t matter if You use it as a tool to enhance your workflow without just blindly copying code. And it seems Ou so a lot of checking and thinking after the fact.
But those aspects don’t matter to people that have a fixed mindset and are convinced they are right and everyone doing it differently is wrong ( I think there is a name for that kind of condition…). You are vibe coding therefore you are stupid and need to either see the light or be buried. They are not rude, they are just trying to make you see the light! It’s always the same conversation. First downvotes, dismissive or outright rude comments and then you engage and try to have a civil conversation about something specific and then the goalposts start to move.
I get why some people have a radical position on AI but they need to learn that there are other positions too.

For a reverse proxy I can recommend pangolin. Single sign on, pin password and also private services that you can access via a tail scale betbird like app.

I switched from tail scale to pangolin for reverse proxy. Does everything. Auth, VPN, hidden services, public services. Fantastic piece of software
