I’ve used different Linux OSs for 20 years and switched DEs without a thought and without a big install and never had a problem. Seems like one of the advantages, but maybe I am not using the programs you are.

Country music isn’t “waking up,” it’s just that there are a number of established artists who aren’t participating in the mainstream. They have always been there, and there are just as many of them now as there were in 1978. The mainstream of country is the same as any other genre. There are all kinds of Hip Hop artists that didn’t get heavy airplay in the 90s because the industry didn’t want it, and the country music industry is no different now. So insular. No messages, all money.

I had Lingonaut recommended awhile ago here, but it is in early development and still doesn’t support desktop use. It looks like it has apple and android support (maybe? both in alpha I think) but that isn’t how I would interact.

I don’t think I ever burned a DVD (did rip some), but was making copies of my CDs for use in my car up to about 2010 before I got into the mp3 player game. Then it was just ripping. Still would be ripping, but no longer have a drive for that. That computer ate it a few years ago. I should have been more proactive. Maybe will borrow the one from work that has a Jimmy Buffet disc in it.

This is a memory trip haha! I never had to do this because I had cars with cassette decks, but folks with newer cars (maybe 07 or so?) were doing this. Auto forum days.

I should probably check out Kraftwerk, also. I know I ran across them years ago when I learned about Joy Division as a predecessor to New Order, but only remember a song that (I think) was called Radioactivity.

I did not know that, thanks! I’m not especially familiar with Kraftwerk but this song sounds more like 70s era which I guess would include them. I will look into these other Moranis albums.

I did not know he put an album out. From a 89 perspective, maybe it is dated, but I like this song!

Just seeing this album cover takes me back to my dad’s Marantz and big giant headphones.

I’m not sure how to feel about this, either, haha. But both my sister and I are 40+ and she has not had a computer for at least 10 years. Smartphone only.

It’s been a long time since I used Ubuntu, but at the time I did I recall running into issues keeping too many old kernels. They were stored in a fixed space folder (or maybe partition?) that was like 100MB and sometimes wouldn’t clear out automatically, so I remember this. May not be relevant now, but if it is, space in the storage folder is the limiting factor so you would need to change that. If it IS a partition, then you would need to deal with all that is involved with that.
edited to add that my current OS only stores three or four as well. I have never really dived into it.

Same. I need to step my game up! Profiles don’t look that hard, just something to learn 🙂

I am using websocket and don’t see a large battery drain. Am I missing something by not setting up unified push?

Gosh I used to be all over this band but haven’t kept up with them for ten years now. Guess it is time to get with it! I see they are on bandcamp.
What about swappa? I just replaced my 3a with a 7a. I would consider donating it to the cause but had thought about doing something with it.

I don’t really understand the interface, but I hit “power” and was watching some music videos from 1994 and I appreciate you sharing this ❤️

There are many things like this on youtube that you can watch via third party software. The FBI files, all sorts of Alaska things, not sure about reruns. Ibjave used freetube for a long time but it doesn’t always work. Not working at all on Linux right now. At least not with the latest update. Newpipe still works if you are on mobile.

I’m in a pretty similar boat to you. Not great financials, not a lot of spare time, I live in a remote location with limited purchasing options. But I made the decision a long time ago to not use Amazon. That does mean purchasing from multiple sources, seeking vendors who will sell products, and maybe pay a little more.
The thing about Amazon is that their pricing is artificial. The whole package, from item price to shipping is meant to capture you, the consumer, into their ecosystem. I am willing to spend a small amount extra to not support hegemonic practices. It isn’t even that much money, and the time investment to find sources is just that (an investment). For most of my mail order stuff, I already know the vendors to use.
I don’t like to castigate folks for using amazon, and I apologize if I was too confrontational, but I do want to encourage people to engage in their options before amazon is all we have.
Best wishes finding quality sources!

Amazon is pretty necessary in much of the US
I couldn’t disagree more. Amazon is a choice. You have to choose other options and move away from the mindset of immediacy.
I am about 20 years in, started with Ubuntu and have been with Debian stuff since. I’m not a power user, so when I do any CLI work it’s familiar, but more recently have wanted to get a laptop to experiment with something different. I did appreciate Lubuntu on a cheap used laptop I bought about 15 years ago, currently using something provided thru Mint.
I’ve had very few problems. Not with software at any rate!
