That is true, but I think there are some newer protocols that support higher fidelity.

Also Ubuntu 24.04 LTS (for example) was shipped with pipewire instead of pulse audio which just made the handsfree profile (aka low fidelity bidirectional audio) work out of the box. Have been using it without significant problems since that release.

Regarding the camera: you could probably script this with ffmpeg and let it output the cropped stream as a virtual camera but I am nog going to pretend this sounds very appealing to most people.

Regarding scanning. Maybe you can scan to PDF and then use this: https://github.com/alam00000/bentopdf . does seem to do OCR also but havent tried it myself.

And wtf is up with that weird queueing mechanism when you’re playing an album and want to add some songs to play after that album. You can’t append things to your queue in a FIFO fashion

Agreed, a lot of camera’s need weird proprietary apps (or cloud connections) to be set up though (or function fully, even offline), thats why I would recommend this. If yours doesnt: great!

Have a look at Thingino. Comes with wireguard built in. No idea about the solar stuff though. Maybe run it off a generic 5V solar solution.

Care to elaborate on ‘the risks of flatpak’. If you are refering to the practice of people using unofficial flatpaks: Yes I think that poses a certain risk because you are adding an additional party to your threat model.
