I’m not certain, but I’m pretty sure you’re not allowed to mix Battlestar Galactica with Star Wars.

2·8 days ago“it’s a psychological horror sort of film,” you say, clearly not remembering the part where he abruptly opens his eyes and sprays blood from them.
… But yes, you got exactly right what I was referencing, thanks for the assist!

1·13 days agoI’m not trying to be dismissive or critical of those who use a NAS solution. I’ve never used one myself, so maybe it really is amazing; but from your response it sounds just like an NFS (or perhaps samba) server with a web interface? I did try TrueNAS once and it basically seemed like that, but also with convoluted permissions.
Again, not trying to be dismissive or anything. Just trying to understand.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Is 71° F (21° C) the ideal weather to wear shorts?English
3·15 days agoA long time ago, I lived in Maryland and a woman moved in with me from … I forget where, actually, but the west coast. I remember when she first got there we were out on my balcony and she was shivering in a sweater and sweatpants, while I was very comfortable in shorts and a T-shirt.
Acclimatization is real.

Games@lemmy.world•What was the first game you ever bought ?English
4·17 days agoI’m pretty sure it was Jedi Knight: Dark Forces II. I don’t actually remember buying it and might have played Warcraft 2 beforehand, but I spent many … Many happy hours on DF2. One of those two was my introduction to multiplayer gaming, but for sure I spent a lot more time on DF2.
As for whether it was worth it, it arguably shaped a lot of my life to date. Also I met at least one friend whom I still talk to (though rarely) to this day. I would say yes.

3·17 days agoCouldn’t say - I’ve never had the chance to use it. In fact, I’m not sure I ever had the SysRq key on a keyboard I’ve used.
I have had a Pause/Break key and used to think they were the same thing, but now I’m not so sure.

6·18 days agoYou just reminded me … Before I really got into IT in my career I was at a job that still had a messenger for the internal staff. I set my status message in it to “Raising Skinny Elephants Is Utterly Boring.”
I got chastised and made to change it, because the message might offend … Skinny elephants, I guess? I never got clarification on that.
(The manager had no clue what it meant.)

4·18 days agoAlmost everything in lemmy is formatted in markdown, so for most tasks you can just look up “how to x in markdown.” For example, “how to embed an image in markdown” returns (among other things) this guide. That page also includes other guides if you care to browse.
If you’re uncertain whether you’re using correct syntax, there are many editors - both locally and remotely - where you can test before posting. I like this one. Obviously only do that with non sensitive information.
I don’t much like chocolate, but I’ve said here before: if a food item has toppings and is sufficiently robust to maintain those toppings, it is universally better upside down.

I resent the fact that “autocorrect” implies it knows better than you.
