Software compatibility is probably the biggest issue. If someone relies on a piece of software that is Windows or MacOS exclusive, that can be enough of a deal breaker. Open source alternatives may exist, but they do not always have the same features or behave as expected compared to what they are replacing.

I’ve been running Linux full time for 4 years and still have my Windows troubleshooting knowledge. I would say it’s more frustrating since logging isn’t nearly as good compared to Linux.
The biggest feature on Mac is the battery efficiency of Safari with the features of something like Zen Browser. On Linux I would just stick with Zen for similar features.
Nvidia will stop supporting the card officially around the same time on both platforms. With Linux, a viable open source driver may exist in the future, as there is work on nvk which should support that generation of card.
I never said Cuba should join the US, just that corporations could collect royalties on their copyrighted material if they weren’t barred from doing business with the country.

There is LMDE which is just based on Debian.

8·27 days agoA few years back when Sony purchased Bungie, they stated they wanted to focus more on live service games. I think they wanted to release 10 live service games over 10 years. That means they need a variety of their studios working on them, even if it isn’t their specialization. This is definitely a Sony decision and a stupid one at that.

5·2 months agoUpdating all of my games is a huge boost. I also enjoy the sync feature as I may play the same game on my desktop, HTPC, and Steam Deck. I like GOG allowing installing without their launcher, but I still just install games through Heroic Games Launcher for the same reasons as above.
https://orionbrowser.com/. Browser for macOS and iOS. It is a browser that is based on WebKit (like Safari) for macOS and iOS. Right now the only WebKit browser on Linux is Epiphany (GNOME Web), but it is lacking in features compared to Orion.
I personally use it on my Mac, and it would be nice to have other options for Linux given the shrinking market share of Firefox.

0·4 months agoStandardized design, sure. I would argue you could get something more powerful at a comparable size for not too much more. My HTPC is about the size of a shoe box yet has a R7 7700X and a RX 6900 XT.
That really depends on distro. With something like Arch and Debian, that is definitely the case. On the other hand, Bazzite requires almost no configuration and has scripts for common use cases.
