Other users cannot. Your instance admin can obviously see it if they want. Then, it depends on the settings of your instance if all media downloads from other instances are proxied through your instance (hiding your IP from other instance admins) or not. I’m not sure if it’s enabled by default or not.
Generally it’s hidden, but there are a number of caveats as JRaccoon says.
It’d be good to know which instances proxy images and which don’t. It’d also be nice if some of this was controlled by your client if using an app.
It’s also fairly easy to end up on another instance. And any articles you click on will take you to a domain that collects your IP.
As far as I understand it, only your instance can see your IP. users cannot, and other instances cannot.
I don’t know about IP addresses, but I see London, I see France, I see golden_king’s underpants!!!
good one *applause*
France doesn’t rhyme with pants though… unless you say pants in a really weird and posh way like ‘plants’.
Jeeves hand me my pahnts, there’s a good man.
I believe they’re pronouncing France to rhyme with your pronunciation of pants, not the other way round, it only works for some accents, not mine either.
Except they do rhyme… as do plants, chance, dance, stance, enhance, romance…
I believe that the only place that lemmy stores an IP is on application, otherwise it is firewall and reverse proxy logs
