I’ll watch 4 or more videos that I’ll jump between tabs of on my PC, but I’ll only have one playing at a time. Watch one for like 5 minutes, attentions lulls, switch to another. Later, the attention for one of the others increases, so I’ll jump back to it.

It’s like…staggared consumption. My attention is weird.

    You mean normie brain?

I can’t split my attention across 5 pieces of media like that; I can only focus on one thing at a time. Cause, you know, I have ADHD.

Different people deal with the lack of focus from ADHD differently. For some of us, being able to constantly swap between activities lessens the mental strain caused by ADHD. For others, having multiple things to do allows them to focus on one of them.

Yeah, that’s why sandbox games are great cause you can watch something longform while solving puzzles. I also got through a lot of house while putting together miniatures…

I feel bad because when I game watch videos on another screen while the game is muted on the other.

Hundreds of hours and thousands of dollars wasted on voice acting and sound design. Most of the stuff I play isn’t immersive, though, more narrative driven/puzzle based.

The craziest shit about getting on an SNRI as opposed to an amphetamine based med was how quiet my space is compared to before.

Yes, though it depends on the material. I don’t watch shows I have never seen, I tend to rewatch stuff a lot. Also I tend to drop the podcast if the game im playing calls for it, currently I’m playing Alan wake 2 so I like to be more focused while playing a game like that.

You have the sound on for all three normally or is it like, audio from podcast, video from show on second monitor, then main focus is game? I can’t imagine the cacophony otherwise.

I have audio on all 3 to varying degrees depending on what I am focusing on most at that time. Some games you have to make the primary audio, but more casual games you don’t. but recently I’ve been watching old 80s and 90s wrestling so you don’t need that on full blast. I retain everything on the pods i listen to and it’s the only way I can put in gaming hours

I have the TV on and something on my phone when I play a game. Is it ADHD or just brain rot?

Found out I was within the last year. Explained a lot about my childhood, and adulthood for that matter. I slipped through the cracks for so long because I was never ‘hyperactive’.

Was it helpful? I’ve got a nagging suspicion on some stuff myself, but it’s hard to justify the cost with “do I actually gain anything by formally knowing”.

Knowing was slightly helpful, in a “Well, now at least I know what’s lacking and that it’s not laziness, but focus.”

On the other hand, getting medicated has been… I hesitate to say explicitly life-changing, because at this point in my life it’s not really changing anything essential about how I live my life… but it has greatly improved my quality of life. Little things, being able to tackle everyday chores without massive executive dysfunction, or being able to focus on tasks for longer. And my sleep is actually restful now. That’s fantastic too.

And the lack of misophonia when I’m medicated is heavenly. Never knew what it was like to not despise every little irregular sound around me. They’re still bothersome, but not to the point where I want to bash my skull in against the edge of a table after hearing people indistinctly chattering for more than ten minutes.

It was astounding and unexpected. I’m still not the biggest fan of irregular sounds, but not having to refocus on them every time they happen is amazing.

knowing has helped my mental health a lot. i’m slowly unlearning constantly blaming myself for being messy or not doing things like “a normal person”. adhd is a disability, and it does make life harder, just knowing that helps a little with the guilt

We have pretty bad thunder storms around where I live, so my fans get turned off every now and then. Since two of them have digital switches I have to turn them back on once the power is back on

there must be a way to “boot” those on “power on” 🤔

i hate that about my air-purifier. i wish it had an old-school manual switch and not those fucking modern touch buttons.

3 reasons why I need the fans running all the time

        1. keep the air moving, also two of the fans 1 in the bedroom and 1 in the “computer room” are fans with filters on them to keep the air cleaner during wildfire season.
        2. I have a huge Dewalt fan pointed the specially made cabinet I keep my PC and server in that keeps the air moving through the cabinet (that’s the fan with the analog switch, a twisty switch. I even had my boddy weld together some aluminum sheets together to make sure all the air that big fan moves goes into that cabinet and then out the top for maximum heat dissipation…but there’s some computer fans on top pulling air up and out that continue to run even when the power goes out and my two bigass UPS power supplies have to do their thing
        3. I’m hearing impaired and my ears ring really loud without the fans running.
