The officer apparently tried to tuck a gun into his pants instead of using a holster, failed, dropped the gun, and menaced bystanders in response to his own failure
ICE isn’t so tough when they’re not slamming defenseless women into the ground, are they?
If they were so tough, why aren’t they going after actual gang members? Not old ladies they say have “gang connections”.
Believe it or not, you have gang connections too. You live on the same planet as a notorious violent gangster. DETAINED!
Nth tale from a fascist country.
And make no mistake:, fascist countries are like that because they’re inhabited by fascist people.isn’t losing his gun like that a serious internal offence as well?
This is ICE, so it is unlikely there’s anything internal.
Hahaha fair, but imagine that was the FBI or something. Pretty sure losing control of your gun like that is very bad and can result in discipline?
Those guys are fuckin trash at their job, my god.
Well yeah, they took a job to basically run around and terrorize immigrants all day like its cowboys and indians. Can’t imagine that attracts a very high caliber individual, and the administration sure as hell isn’t turning anyone away.
They earn twice as much as you do
Probably not, I’m at almost $200K a year. That is irrelevant to their lack of abilities to detain a single man.

You feel the need to have that footer to not be harassed on Lemmy?

Haha ok :)
I think they’re pre-emptively explaining to the jury in case the gov found it and they end up in court.
Fucking children…
No, that’s the gov.
These folk are just protecting the gov (and kill random folk, beat everyone, even fuck children, but that’s not the point)./s (well, I mean, I wish)

People need to read up on the Kent State shootings in 1970. National Guards “men” shot and killed people singing songs. 4 murdered, 9 more shot, then days later at UNM 8 students were stabbed with bayonettes.
There was an investigation, the Guard lied about being under sniper fire, most of these brave heros admitted they were scared because of rocks. No one was held responsible for a massacre of unarmed Americans.
America has a 50 year old problem of cowards with guns.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kent_State_shootings?wprov=sfla1
America has. 250 year old problem of cowards with guns
Some of those shot weren’t even protesters, they were just random students walking to class who were completely uninvolved.
This kind of thing was way too common back then

https://lithub.com/when-bruce-lee-trained-with-kareem-abdul-jabbar/
Just back then? This is my first time reading this particular excerpt, but the “Black Hitlers” part sticks out. Conservative America really has been doing the same shit forever, it seems. Calling them that is in the same family as saying, “Antifa are the real fascists,” etc. Just feed their target audience some shit to parrot that, to them, feels salient but really is meaningless except for redirecting blame and stoking fear and hatred.
Exactly. Paint their opponents with their own crimes in order to sow confusion and shift blame
And we’re still talking about Kent State and UNM today as it had a serious affect on the country. But the sad part is, if something like this happened today, a third of Americans would blame the victims. Fox News would tell lies about what actually happened. And it would be swept under the rug and forgotten about by Christmas.
Trump world also pardon any offenders if it made it to court.
The lesson from Kent State is no one in this country really gave a fuck.
When it happened 80% of the country blamed the kids. We’re actually much better off today then we were back then in terms of public opinion and reactions.
Ah yes, the States. Where you have to be more scared of the police than of criminals.
I sure hope this doesn’t happen over here.
Not sure where here is, but police are the same everywhere.
Nope, that’s not true. The US is a special kind of hellscape.

Why so hostile mate? Let’s have a civil discussion.
I feel like they’re worse some places than others.
I don’t know. I’ve never even seen a police officer here take their gun out of the holster, no even put a hand over it.
That’s really ignorant, police is not at all the same everywhere
Nah, they are worse in the states. Yes, there are bad cops here too, one randomly pulled a gun on one of my family members at a traffic stop, but the cops here are generally better than in the states.
Ah yes… a few of the third world countries are worse than USA… for now. Making America “Great”.
Martyrs only work with a population that gives a shit.
If someone dies to ICE shooting them to become a martyr, they just become a statistic, because Americans dont give a shit apparently.
See, the point on full display here is that the ICE isn’t allowed to or aren’t stupid enough to shoot protestors. Anybody who thinks the worst that can happen when confronting an angry mob is some broken windows has obviously never read any history books: entire towns can be burnt to the ground if things escalate.
There is no martyr because shooting one of them is the dumbest shit they could possibly do. The ICE show up with their military fetishism gear to intimidate you, but that’s all it is. It’s them playing dressup. They’re not authorized to use those guns unless their life is in danger, and when they do use those guns then their life will be in danger.
“Law Enforcement” in the US does things they’re not authorized to do all the time and rarely face consequences. That fuck who murdered George Floyd was SHOCKED when he got arrested for it.
“Cops dont face consequences.”
*Cites cop who faced consequences.
Cops “rarely face consequences” (direct quote from my comment)
*Cites rare instance cop faced consequences
Go ahead. Shoot me.
I wonder, how many people regret saying it because they’ve been actually shot. Ah, yes. None. Good line.
I mean there was this https://knowyourmeme.com/memes/what-are-you-gonna-do-stab-me
I said it once. Felt like the only option. Luckily it didn’t backfire
Kent State may disagree. It is definitely a cautionary tale. That said: good line.
4 dead, 9 more shot, no one held responsible. Greatest country on earth.
.
I stayed just outside of DC a couple weeks ago. I went into a run-down Dunkin and it was operated entirely in Spanish aside from the cashier knowing just enough English to take orders from people who aren’t fluent in Spanish. I knew enough Spanish to be able to get my order when it was called. As I was leaving, a cop came in and started counting every brown person there. He made a big show of it, too, and people started panicking.
I honestly didn’t know what to do in that situation. I was hungover as hell, broke, and had to drive 5 hours to get home so I could wake up for work the next day. I decided to just hang out and make sure the cop knew that I was watching him. I had my phone out and ready to record if more serious shit started happening. After a few minutes, the cop went back outside to his squad car and I pretended like I totally just happened to be leaving at the same time. When I blatantly eavesdropped on the cop and his buddy in the squad car outside, I heard them laughing about the whole thing. Apparently terroizing immigrants and their families is a fucking game to those bastards.
The patrons of the place cleared out immediately after the cops were gone. I stayed parked at that Dunkin for a good half an hour after everyone who could leave did and nothing else happened.
I have no idea if I should have done something more in that situation. I wanted to tell the cop to get the fuck out of there. I wanted to say some witty shit like “Oh man, I didn’t order ice with my coffee.”
I kinda freaked out internally when I realized what was happening but I couldn’t bring myself to just leave despite my instincts telling me to. So I just made my presence and opposition to the cop known in a way that couldn’t (legally) get me arrested and hoped for the best.
Most cops are sadists or ok with other cops being sadists. The ones that aren’t don’t last long in that environment before they quit or get training accidented.
I drive a school bus for a semi rural city in Arkansas. A large portion of the kids that ride my bus are Hispanic. I have had nightmares about this shit since the election.
I’m a white blonde blue eye cishet man and I’m still being hit by the unabashed cruelty and evil. I just want to get off.
Oh god that’s terrifying. Like what are you supposed to do as a driver in that situation? Like if ice raids your bus at goddamn red light or some shit?
I don’t know. I want to believe I’ll fight in the moment but I don’t know what I’d do.
Does the district you work for not have any plans for that shit? You’d think they would…
Nope. There was some vague emails at the beginning of the administration about how they don’t approve of ICE going to schools and wouldn’t work with them but that hasn’t happened yet (thankfully) and there’s not really been anything else.
But we had an email basically pre warning us not to say anything bad about kirks murder on social media, so that was fun.
Damn. You’d think they’d have a plan for ICE raids…
And that’s fucking infuriating that they take Kirk more seriously than ICE raids… Guess they have a “Fuck them kids” mentality. I’m not a parent and don’t ever plan to be, but shit like this makes me so mad. Kids should be able to be kids and not live in fear. There’s going to be generations of people who didn’t have childhoods who will enter adulthood already jaded as hell. It’s so sad.
Perhaps you could have done more, but you did something, and that matters in my books
Isn’t that the reason why you all have guns at home?
Most of those left-of-center do not have guns. That’s the problem.
The 2nd Amendment is for when all the other Amendments fail.
Technically, the 2A is primarily for when foreign armies invade and secondarily for when other Amendments fail.
1A says you try and protest to protect all your other rights. 2A says 1A didn’t work so they about to FO.
So, lets entertain this train of thought a moment. The ICE agent drops his gun and, embarrassed, drops to the ground and points the gun at bystanders (according to OP at least). A bystander pulls a gun on the officer in defense and fires. The ICE guy on the ground gets hit but not before firing off several rounds. By this point the rest of the goon squad have pulled their guns and begin firing on the crowd because they don’t know where the shots originated from. Now you have a wounded/killed agent and a whole group of innocent people got gunned down in response. Taking it further, Trump uses this as proof that martial law needs to be enacted officially and not just the illegal ways he’s doing it now.
Maybe that’s what its going to take? IDK. I do think you’re right in principle, but shits complicated. At leas t with Marshall law you will finally understand the severity and maybe fight back instead of just saying things like, “if we do something it’ll be bad”, every single time, until there is no one to fight back and nothing left to fight for and you can enjoy the full force of a technofascist state anyway.
if we do something it’ll be bad
Opening fire in public is a very particular type of “something“
Kimmel didn’t get back on the air thanks to shooters, it was loud noise (and louder money). Also I’m not sure how to ask without seeming like I’m egging you on but are you making recommendations that you yourself are comfortable following? I would understand your argument better if you were an armed leader of group trying to convince others they need to be you doing the same as you, but if you’re posting here then you’re probably not in jail so it seems like you’re encouraging others to get themselves embroiled in gun fights/arrested safely behind a QWERTY layout.
btw this situation is incredibly upsetting and I know your heart is in the right place—we want justice. If I read too much into your comment I’ll leave it here for others who suggest firing at authorities who may have not thought it through all the way, & hope you can see where I’m coming from when you look at the parent comment and then yours.
That’s the reason everyone says they have guns. If you have a map I can go into detail on what that translates to.
Pointing a gun at someone is assault.
Police in the US do lots of things that are against the law without consequences.
If it’s really bad they usually get time off with pay, as a bonus.
The state has a near-monopoly on legitimate violence.
Police in the US do lots of things that are against the law without consequences.
