This will continue until someone finds a way to reconcile the two major groups who currently call themselves Democrats: the not-very-left centrist and the very-left social-progressive. (My terms for simplicity)

The centrists appear to fear the social progressives and the progressives seem frustrated with the centrists. These groups really need their own parties, but that’s political suicide in the current electoral model.

Tie minimum wage to GDP/GNP, inflation, etc.

Tie congressional salaries to be a fixed multiple of minimum wage.

If congress wants more money, they have to make everyone’s situation better.
