News@lemmy.world•Wells Fargo Agrees To Pay $85M Settlement Over Claims It Hosted Fake Job Interviews To Hit Diversity Goals
0·5 months agoI couldn’t also see the definition of “qualified” candidate in the article. Someone may have attended one of these fake recruitment processes but secured employment elsewhere in the same timeframe without any real financial penalty other than having their time wasted. Also just holding stock during that time does not mean an actual loss was realised by a shareholder. A bit of a mess for either type of candidate to work out compensation.

News@lemmy.world•Wells Fargo Agrees To Pay $85M Settlement Over Claims It Hosted Fake Job Interviews To Hit Diversity Goals
0·5 months agoI presume the rationale is that when these claims became public the stock price was adversely impacted meaning public investors during that period lost money. Not all shareholders are wealthy people playing the dips and highs for maximum gains or have any connection to the bank itself. For example some everyday people may have had their modest retirement funds or life savings impacted as some of these investments commonly include bank stocks as they are seen as “safe” and are usually not direct investment decisions that these people make if part of a managed portfolio.
This is the risk that comes with holding stock directly or indirectly, but for some this not really a “benefit” but an attempt to get back their hard earned money that they tucked away and then lost through no fault of their own. Governments have historically bailed out banks when they are in trouble regardless if caused by the banks actions or not, so I see no reason why a bank should not have to cover people’s losses caused by their corrupt actions through a class action lawsuit.

0·6 months agoThat seems pretty threatening from the US Attorney.
Makes sense. Yep, I have multiple friends my age who were on the receiving end of some “tough love”.
Out of curiosity do you mean the age of the person who posted, the person in the image, or something else? I am a Gen X and my children look about the age of the person in the screenshot.
Many who “like” him are just riding the grift train.

0·7 months agoI am more cynical. The judges words may sound like he is doing the right thing, but I fear the Trump team will use this as an excuse to say the overall process to release more materials is stuck in the courts. I would have approved the release of the materials and also made the comments that these materials are a drop in the ocean compared to the full mountain of information the government already holds and is able to release.

politics @lemmy.world•Trump, 79, Sparks Dementia Concerns With Weird Cold War Comment
0·7 months agoWhy are we using not having dementia as the intellectual benchmark for someone to lead a country. Dude can’t read or do basic maths let alone understand more complex economics or geopolitics.
Even when he fails the dementia test we will resort to simply checking for a pulse, and I bet once he dies it will be covered up for as long as possible.
John Oliver on The Bugle podcast had the best description of its shape. “Chile. The country most likely to crack if baked into a biscuit.”

Looks like a red garden gnome hat. Perhaps Red Hat Arch Linux running GNOME … sorry
