When people started saying “The cruelty is the point.”, I was skeptical and thought there had to be other motivations that we just weren’t privy to. But every day brings more evidence that the “cruelty is the point” folks were right and I was just overthinking it.
Every person who legit supports freedom of speech made fun of the Harper’s letter and it ruined Harper’s reputation (to the degree it had one in the 2020’s) for a generation. I would guess fewer than 10% of the signatories signed it in good faith or knew they were signing something that people like Bari Weiss’s clownfraud ass were even asked to sign. She’s not a public intellectual. She’s a public buffoon.
And people said Trump could never live up to Reagan’s legacy. He’s already half senile, making shady deals with cartels and despots, ruining the tax code, and trying to build a missile defense system that will never exist.

I have bad news about the DNC being a functional organization. There’s a reason Obama setup a whole separate organization and actually won. Neera Tanden runs the Center for American Progress again despite fucking it up last time and everyone they put on TV is somehow the least charismatic 75 year-old centrist in the entire caucus who just says whatever.
The DNC and entire Democrat establishment could just not exist and more Democrats would get elected. Their learned helplessness expired in like 2003 and they’re still putting it in their coffee as if nothing went sour.
I’m torn on whether to give a single fuck or two shits about what any Democratic consultant says. (It’s David Plouffe to save you a click). They’re all like 75 years old and insulated from the consequences of policy. They just go on cable TV for 15 minutes a day and read from a script as if nothing has changed in 25 years. (Plouffe was an Obama campaign advisor so maybe not 25 years for him but well over a decade.)
I’d like to think that LSU baseball has something to do with this by fans buying 68,888 Jello-shots at the college World Series.
I trash the judges all the time. I’d invite them over to discuss it but I take a maximalist view of the third amendment and worry I’d have to be a true soldier1 without permission if I got any sass from Alito or Thomas.
1 Courts have yet to rule on whether No Limit Soldiers count and I don’t want to start the case in the 5th Circuit.

Light plagiarism was serious enough that The NY Times ran like 700 stories to get the president of Harvard to resign. But that scandal was like 15 months ago and times have changed. The NY Times now has to cover the Met Gala like it’s a global summit creating a new world order from the ashes of a ruined civilization. Plus, Maggie Haberman needs access so she can save the most newsworthy bits for a book to be released in 2029.

They released some body cam footage but it doesn’t show that so I’m assuming they aren’t releasing the video of the ICE agent getting body slammed by a Congressperson because it’s rad as fuck and that Congressperson would instantly be named Speaker of the House, Smack Down Champion, and a Cardinal by Chicago Pope regardless of their faith tradition.
Or maybe it just didn’t actually happen.
It’s probably less about making the kernel smaller and more about security and reviewing code. The less code you have to maintain, the fewer vulnerabilities even if it’s old code.
I would doubt almost 20 year-old code is taking up a lot of space or presenting new vulnerabilities. And it’s obviously open source so if anyone needs it, they can always use an older kernel or maintain it. Sometimes, your oldest code is insane. I wish there was a budget for every company and government to pay retirees part time to go back over their oldest code that’s still in use. A lot of retired programmers would do it for fun and nostalgia. And to be horrified something they wrote 20 years ago hasn’t been updated or replaced.
I would hope people who spend or spent their career at the J. Edgar Hoover Building take the values of seriousness and professionalism seriously.
For the record, I’m not saying junior level agents or specialists or whatever get a choice of what DC building they work in. But people with influence need to change the fucking name of the building. Even in this divisive age, I’d like to think we can come together to say J. Edgar Hoover was a piece of actual shit.
I live in Louisiana and don’t go to Mississippi unless I have to. One time, LSU was playing Ole Miss and we got a hotel in Memphis. On gameday, some lady came up to me while I was just standing there and said, “T-R-A-S-H trash” and I just responded “You live in Mississippi!”

Honestly, this is a nice feature of macOS (or at least iTerm 2; I don’t use the official terminal). I know CTRL-C is used to kill processes and we all have that muscle memory but I usually try to change that on my personal Linux installs because I’ve hit it by mistake before.
I used to use CTRL+INSERT for copy and SHIFT+INSERT for paste but there’s usually no insert key on laptops or even small keyboards. It’s probably time to just adapt.
What the fuck are we spying on? You could probably just have a nice lunch with every person in Greenland for less money than it’ll cost to replace that jet that fell off the air craft carrier the other day. And that was the second jet.
Plus, we have a whole Alaska. We’re not going to lack access to the Northwest Passage. (NB: this is assuming there’s any logic at all. I have no idea why Trump is obsessed with Greenland. It’s probably because the Mercator projection makes it look bigger than it is and his assistants show him maps in the daily briefing or whatever.)
Judge Matthew Kacsmaryk must have a lot of cases to handle since seemingly every far right case is filed in his court. We’re going to have so many judicial reforms to enact to bring back even the semblance of rule of law but add venue shopping to the list.
