Maybe I shouldn’t generalise, but when I have seen Lemmy.ml posters, they often take quite extreme positions. E.g. insisting it would have been wrong to vote for Harris (even as a lesser-of-two-evils), insisting that Chinese imperialism and Russian imperialism are justified (only western imperialism is evil, apparently). Stuff like that.
Lemmy.ml genuinely believes this. They will still insist that not supporting Harris was somehow the right decision.
I think this is the first time I’ve seen someone from Lemmy.ml admit something negative about China.
To me it seems that the US, China, and Russia are all behaving imperialistically, which is pretty worrying.
Related to your post: I’ve seen people from Lemmy.ml defend imperialist behaviour from Russia and China. Surely the left is supposed to oppose imperialism - whether it’s from the US, Europe, Russia, China, or anywhere else.
I find it ironic that Vance has talked about Europe supposedly not being democratic and supposedly not listening to the will of the people. Hillary Clinton in 2016 (whether you like her or not) got more votes than Trump. If the US respected the will of the people, they’d get rid of the electoral college, and they would have inaugurated Hillary as president.

Absolutely true. I didn’t mean to imply that you said that. I was just thinking about people on the left (not necessarily yourself) who didn’t vote for Kamala because she wasn’t critical enough of Israel. In America’s political system, especially in swing states, not voting for the Democrat candidate makes it more likely that the Republican candidate will win.
I hope the US doesn’t invade other countries. But I would say I can be wary of both the US and China at the same time.
Quite right. The Trump administration are the ones who decided they don’t need allies. Fine, then there is no obligation for America’s old allies to help America.
Maybe there should be an official alliance between America’s old allies: Europe, Canada, Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, Australia, New Zealand, etc. A big free trade area with Americans excluded.
